Syokau Drops New Song Thanking Ruto for Raila’s State Burial

Kenyan gospel singer Justina Syokau has released a new song celebrating President William Ruto for granting the late opposition leader Raila Odinga a state burial. The song, titled “Rais Ruto Busu”, is a heartfelt tribute that praises the president for demonstrating unity and respect across political divides.

A Song of Gratitude and Unity

In the track, Syokau thanks President Ruto for “showing leadership” and “honouring Baba,” referring to Raila Odinga by his popular nickname. She describes Ruto’s decision to offer the long-time opposition chief a state funeral as an act of reconciliation and maturity that set an example for future generations.

“Ruto ametuonyesha upendo na heshima kwa viongozi wote,” she sings, loosely translating to “Ruto has shown us love and respect for all leaders.” The song blends gospel rhythms with patriotic overtones, highlighting Kenya’s need for peace and healing after years of political rivalry.

Honouring Raila’s Legacy

Syokau also pays tribute to Raila Odinga, praising his decades of service, resilience, and influence in shaping Kenya’s democracy. In interviews, she revealed that Raila’s political journey and his role in mentoring young artists inspired her to dedicate the song to both him and President Ruto.

“I felt it was important to thank our president for honouring Raila with dignity. It showed that Kenya can rise above politics and embrace peace,” she said.

As a personal gesture of mourning and respect, Syokau shared that she shaved her hair following Raila’s passing a traditional act symbolising grief and reverence in many Kenyan cultures.

Mentioning Other Leaders

The gospel star also acknowledges other prominent figures who participated in the funeral arrangements, including former president Uhuru Kenyatta, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. She credits them for working together in unity during a moment of national reflection.
