According to a statement from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the incident occurred earlier today in the coastal region. Authorities have confirmed the crash and stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause and assess the extent of damage and casualties.

“An aircraft with 12 persons on board has been involved in an accident in Kwale. Our technical and rescue teams, in coordination with other government agencies, are already on site,” KCAA said in its preliminary statement.

Emergency services, including officers from the Kenya Police, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and the Kenya Red Cross, have been deployed to the scene to assist in rescue and recovery operations.

As of now, details about the type of aircraft, ownership, and the condition of those on board remain unclear. KCAA officials have urged the public to avoid speculation until full information is released.

Local residents reported seeing smoke rising from the crash site shortly after 9 a.m., with some saying they heard a loud explosion before emergency vehicles arrived.

The Ministry of Transport and the National Disaster Operations Centre have also confirmed they are closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates as more information becomes available.

Authorities have assured that a full investigation will be conducted in line with international aviation safety protocols.

“Safety remains our top priority. Once rescue efforts are complete, a team of investigators will begin examining flight data, weather conditions, and communication logs to determine the cause,” a senior aviation official said.

Further details, including the fate of the passengers and crew, are expected later today as emergency operations continue at the crash site.
