Tigania East Member of Parliament Mpuru Aburi has strongly criticized former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi over his recent “one term” statements targeting some Meru leaders.
Speaking during a public meeting in Igoji East on Sunday morning, Mpuru told Linturi to stop making divisive remarks and instead explain what he achieved for the people of Meru while serving in government. The MP said it was unfair for Linturi to talk about leaders serving only one term when he had failed to deliver meaningful development to the region.

“Before talking about who will serve one term, Linturi should first tell us what he did for the people of Meru. The only thing we remember is the fake fertilizer that was given to farmers,” Mpuru said.
The Tigania East legislator went on to accuse Linturi of letting down farmers, saying that many of them suffered after receiving poor-quality fertilizer that did not help improve crop yields. He claimed that instead of empowering local farmers, the former CS left them struggling with losses.
Mpuru urged Linturi to show evidence of the Meru people he helped while in office. “If he really worked for the people, let him show us the list of farmers or youth he supported when he was in government,” Mpuru added.
The remarks have added to the growing political tension in Meru County, where leaders have been exchanging harsh words in recent weeks. Many believe the political battles are part of early campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mpuru also called on Meru leaders to stop personal attacks and instead work together to bring development to the county. He said the people of Meru are tired of political fights and want leaders who focus on improving roads, healthcare, and education.
“The people want development, not endless quarrels. We must put aside pride and serve those who elected us,” Mpuru said.
