Fuel Tanker Overturns at Mutuati Market, Meru Residents Fear Explosion

Meru Panic has gripped Mutuati Market after a fuel tanker lost control and overturned early Tuesday morning, sparking fears of a possible explosion.

The tanker, which was transporting petroleum products, reportedly veered off the road and rolled near the busy market area, narrowly missing nearby shops and stalls. Witnesses say the driver appeared to be struggling to control the vehicle moments before it overturned.

As of the time of publication, the fire department had not yet arrived at the scene, raising anxiety among residents and traders who quickly evacuated the area fearing the tanker could ignite.

Police officers have since arrived and cordoned off the area to prevent people from getting close to the wreckage. Authorities are urging locals to keep a safe distance as emergency response teams from Meru and nearby towns make their way to the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that brake failure or a slippery section of the road could have contributed to the crash.

Residents have called on the county disaster response team to respond swiftly, warning that the tanker’s position in the middle of a busy trading center poses a serious safety threat.

No injuries or fatalities had been reported by the time of this update.
